Comedian Munawar Faruqui briefly detained in raid on Mumbai hookah bar

Munawar Faruqui and 13 others were briefly detained in Mumbai during a raid on a hookah bar. The standup comedian was let off after a case was registered.

Bigg Boss 17 winner and standup comedian Munawar Faruqui was briefly detained late on Tuesday in Mumbai following a raid on a hookah bar. He was let off after a case was lodged.

According to the details, Faruqui was booked under The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 or COTPA, 2003.

The raid on the hookah bar was conducted on Tuesday evening, where 13 others were also detained.

All detainees were booked under the said act.

Faruqui was there at the hookah bar at the time of the raid. Later, he was penalised after his medical tests came back positive.

Senior police officials said he was allowed to leave.

The raid was conducted after the police received information about nicotine being used with tobacco products at the hookah parlour.

The police seized a total of Rs 4,400 and nine hookah pots, worth Rs 13,500, in the raid.

Further investigations into the case were underway.
