BJP leader schools Trudeau over 'Punjabi singer' reference for Diljit Dosanjh

From Punjab to Canada, Diljit Dosanjh is known for his popular songs such as "Lover," "Proper Patola,"  "G.O.A.T.", and Born to Shine” and is currently on his "Dil-Luminati Tour.” Now nothing is stopping Diljit Dosanjh after his great achievement at the Canada Concert. But now there is controversy over calling him “a guy from Punjab” instead of “a guy from India.”.

Diljit Dosanjh, having created history at Coachella and appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in the US, recently became the first Punjabi artist to fill up the venue at his “DIL-LUMINATI TOUR” in Canada. In the show, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau surprised him on the stage at his sold-out Canada Concert. In a video posted on Instagram by Diljit, he and the PM can be seen greeting each other with folded hands, followed by a tight hug. Soon, the duo posed with Diljit’s entire team, eventually shaking hands.

But, by referring to him as a 'Punjabi singer' instead of an 'Indian singer’, BJP National Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a social media post. He also called it 'deliberate mischief through wordplay'. He said, "Let me correct this, Mr. Prime Minister—where one guy from India can make history and sell out stadiums.” and added, "Your gesture of lauding a fantastic artist like Diljit has been totally overshadowed by your deliberate mischief through wordplay.”

Diljit also referred “Diversity is Canada‘s strength." Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came to check out the history in making: We sold out the Rogers Centre.”

Justin Trudeau shared a set of photos with the singer on his Instagram handle. He wrote, “I stopped by the Rogers Center to wish Diljit Dosanjh good luck before his show. Canada is a great country, one where a guy from Punjab can make history and sell out stadiums. Diversity isn’t just our strength. It’s a superpower.

Diljit shared several photos from his historical concert in Canada on his Instagram Story. One of the pictures featured the banner of Diljit’s concert with the text “Sold out." Another video showed a packed stadium with everybody enjoying the concert with their phone’s flashlight on.

He announced his next concert in his Instagram post. It will be in Great Britain, Europe, the UAE, and India.
