Animal box office collection day 5: Ranbir Kapoor’s blockbuster eyes Rs 500 crore worldwide gross, Rs 300 crore in India today

Animal box office collection day 5: Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, refused to slow down at the ticket windows even on Tuesday, as it nears the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide.

Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal didn’t merely pass the crucial Monday test with flying colours, it barely registered a drop on Tuesday as well. The movie made Rs 40 crore on Monday, its fourth day in theatres, and followed it up with Rs 38 crore on day five, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Animal had made a huge Rs 201 crore in India across its opening weekend, after delivering the second-biggest first-day haul in the history of Bollywood cinema, after Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. The film’s nett domestic total, after five days of release, stands at Rs 283 crore, and its five-day global total, according to T-Series, stands at Rs 481 crore.

Animal’s box office collection on day five makes it Ranbir Kapoor’s second-biggest hit, both domestically and worldwide. The movie overtook last year’s Brahmastra on both fronts, and is now trailing the Rs 342 crore domestic and nearly Rs 590 crore global gross of Sanju. Animal will likely pass both milestones in the coming days, and will emerge as one of the top five biggest Indian blockbusters of the year. The film has two full weeks without competition, until Shah Rukh Khan attempts to complete his hat-trick of success this year with his upcoming film, Dunki. SRK delivered two back-to-back blockbusters – Pathaan and Jawan – earlier this year, for a combined global gross of over Rs 2200 crore.

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal reported occupancy of 42% for the Hindi language release on day five. Once again, numbers from the Telugu market were solid, with occupancy in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions hovering at 30%. What’s clear, however, is that the movie hasn’t quite performed as well in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. While Ranbir cemented his stardom with the film, Animal also established Vanga as a force to reckon with.

Each of his three films so far have been blockbusters, but each of them have also courted controversy. Like Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh before it, Animal has attracted criticism for its glorification of toxic masculinity. But none of these complaints impacted Arjun Reddy or Kabir Singh in the slightest, and they don’t seem to be affecting Animal either. In fact, the movie is defying the restrictions that come with an A certificate and a nearly three and a half hour run time. Animal also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol.
