Three girls, students of Class 8 in a government school in Tamil Nadu's Karur district, fled their homes to watch BTS concert in South Korea. They were later rescued by the police.
Passionate fans of BTS, the hugely popular Korean pop band, the three girls had left for their school in Thanthonimalai on January 4, but never returned.
The matter came to light when their teachers informed about their absence in the school. Shocked, their parents filed a missing complaint with the police.
Based on their complaint, a search was launched and CCTV at bus stops, railway stations were scanned. Two special teams were formed to track the location of the girls.
The girls were seen boarding a train from Karur railway station, implying that they were not kidnapped. Railway Police, then, immediately issued an alert to all train stations to track the girls. The trio were then seen at Katpadi railway station, and rescued by the police.
The girls told police that they had watched BTS music performance on their parents’ smartphones, after which they decided to watch their concert and left home to reach Korea.
The trio had fled their home with money, reportedly spent on shopping for accessories for the concert. However, they later realised they didn’t have enough money to reach Korea, and decided to return to Karur.
At Katpadi junction, they had got down to eat when they missed the train and were left stranded. Commuters, realising that the girls were lost, had alerted police, leading to their rescue.
The girls were then produced before district official and later sent to children's home to undergo counselling and then handed over to parents.
