IIT Delhi surpasses IIT Bombay as India's top university in QS Asia rankings 2025

IIT Delhi has emerged as India's top-ranked institution in the QS Asia Rankings 2025, surpassing IIT Bombay. This achievement highlights India's academic prominence, with 193 institutions featured in the rankings, the highest representation amongst Asian countries.

In the QS Asia Rankings 2025, IIT Delhi has overtaken IIT Bombay to become India’s top-ranked institution, marking a proud moment for the country in the global academic landscape. This year’s rankings, curated by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, are the 16th edition of the QS World University Rankings: Asia.

They include 984 universities from 25 different higher education systems, highlighting India as the most represented nation with 193 institutions on the list—surpassing Mainland China's 135 and Japan's 115.

Peking University retains the top position in Asia, followed by The University of Hong Kong and the National University of Singapore. Within India, IIT Delhi stands out at 44th spot, leading a strong performance by the nation’s institutions. IIT Bombay follows closely in 48th position, and IIT Madras ranks third in India in 56th position.

This achievement reflects the growing emphasis on research productivity and employability at India’s leading technical institutes, especially the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
