Agniveer, a 20-year-old woman under training with the Indian Navy, died by suicide at the women's hostel at INS Hamla in in Mumbai. The Indian Navy expressed condolences for the unfortunate incident and ordered an inquiry. Aparna V Nair, also known as Agniveer, allegedly hanged herself in her hostel room. The Mumbai Police are investigating the case and analyzing her phone records. Nair, originally from Pathanamthitta in Kerala, had been undergoing training in Odisha before coming to Mumbai.

The Indian Army has introduced a psychometric test to assess candidates' mental capabilities on a trial basis during the Agniveers recruitment rally in Pune. This test, developed by the Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR), aims to analyze the mental well-being, behavior, and personality traits of candidates. The test is being conducted due to the stressful conditions in the force and the need for candidates to have the aptitude for physical fitness and mental toughness. It will help identify candidates who are psychologically suitable to serve in frontline posts under tough conditions.
